Artist Statement
One of the first times I remember getting to use a camera was in 1958 when I took a trip to San Francisco with my mother’s cousin Laura. I was going to be a tourist and stay in the big city for four days at the St Francis Hotel. My mom and dad gave me permission to take one roll of film and the family Kodak on my big adventure. I took pictures of zoo animals, Mission Dolores, Coit tower, the Cliff House, Playland at the Beach and Golden Gate Bridge. I was only 10 but felt so grown up getting to use the camera. My pictures were nothing special but I know I used my allowance to buy another roll of film rather then a San Francisco souvenir. I had the time of my life shooting those two rolls of film and my love of photography was born then and there. I wish I knew what became of my pictures but I don’t. Now I take pictures again to make me happy. I have discovered the digital dark room of Photoshop and I get to play and create to my heart’s content. I hope as you look at my work you find things in them that speak you.
